Yorkshire Three Peaks
Andrew Lamont (Monty) and his wife Jane, will be scaling Yorkshire’s iconic three peaks in July in aid of the Rossendale Trust. On July 6th they will set out to conquer the peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours!
We caught up with Monty to find out more about this formidable challenge.
So why the Yorkshire Three Peaks?
Jane grew up in Yorkshire and has spent many happy days walking in the Dales but has never made it to the top of these 3 peaks, so now is the time! I’m a keen fell runner and would like to be able to see the amazing views that I miss when I run by.
Are you doing any training before hand?
We have taken advantage of our local hills by going on long walks in the Peak District. We are so lucky to live with the beautiful countryside on our doorstep. We have been able to head out straight from our front door and end up at Shutlingsloe or on the Gritstone trail. We started with 8 to 10 mile walks in February which were often very wet and muddy. Now we have reached 20 mile, hilly walks with the occasional need for sun cream!
What part of the challenge are you most looking forward to?
We are looking forward to the sense of achievement we will hopefully gain from succeeding in this epic challenge and also knowing that we are able to fundraise for the Rossendale Trust. The walk is around 25 miles and has the equivalent hill climb of trekking up Ben Nevis. We are also looking forward to putting our feet up when we have finished and our next walks being much shorter, with fewer hills.
What difference do you think your fundraising will make to the Rossendale Trust?
I have been working at Rossendale since summer 2023 and have found that working with the tenants encouraging them to live independently, has been the most fulfilling work I have ever done. We hope to raise money to support the Rossendale Trust, so that they can provide even more opportunities for the tenants to try new things.
How can people show their support/donate to you?
We have set up a Just Giving page, where supporters can make a donation. We really appreciate everyone who has kindly contributed to this. We are also sharing updates of our training on this page, so you can check on our progress through our training.
The Rossendale Trust are working in partnership with Elite Adventures to offer our supporters the opportunity to take part in organised mountain adventures. From Snowden to Scafell, Ben Nevis to the Malvern Hills, there is a challenge to suit everyone. You can find out more and sign up at www.eliteadventures.co.uk
