London Landmarks Half Marathon Debut
Rossendale Race Across London
Sunday 2nd April, saw a team of Rossendale Runners tackle the London Landmarks Half Marathon for the first time in the Trust’s history.
The run takes place in Central London and during the 13.1 miles runners pass some of London’s most famous sites including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London and the House of Parliament.
Our team consisted of tenant Lucie Bevan being supported by staff members, David Clifford and Susanne Tidswell, Judith Nicholson and Fiona Howlett (mother and sister of tenant Stevie) and Catherine Mitchell.
Lucie and her team were lucky enough to be invited to undertake some press interviews prior to the race which meant not only that they get a prime starting position but they also got to line up with a number of celebrity runners including Dermot O’Leary and Mark Wright.
The crowds were out in force , shouting, cheering and singing the team around the route. There were choirs, live bands and even a rave tunnel for our runners to experience. David Clifford explained “What an unbelievable experience that was. The support for Lucie , myself and Susanne was phenomenal all the way around the course and it definitely helped us to keep going when the legs got tired. We are very proud and honoured to have supported Lucie, one of the first ever wheelchair participants, to complete this race. Lucie really enjoyed the experience especially going through the tunnels and the bubble machines as well as hearing the music and cheering on the way around.”
We are delighted to report that all our runners safely crossed the finish line and received their Tower of London themed medals from the Pearly Kings and Queens.
Between them the team have raised over £5000 and with donations still coming in, we are hopeful that this figure will be exceeded. We are so very grateful to all who took part and everyone who has donated and supported them to complete this challenge.
