Five Fall for Charity
A team of five friends and family took on the challenge of a lifetime recently, when they plunged from a plane as part of a charity skydive.
Sarah Burke, her husband Richard and daughter Jennifer along with friends Nathan and Maxwell chose to take part in a tandem skydive for the Rossendale Trust.
Sarah, a WorkTaste coach at the Trust, persuaded her friends and family to brave the jump. Having worked at the Trust for over 18 months Sarah wanted to give something back to the people she supports, “My job allows me to coach and train people with learning disabilities and help them to fulfil their potential in the workplace. My job could not be more rewarding especially when we see the happy faces of the people we support.”
The team travelled to Grange-Over-Sands where they experienced the thrill of free fall from 15,000 ft, reaching a speed of 120 mph! With all five participants landing safely Sarah described the experience “Travelling horizontally and spinning around looking at the views was astonishing and as the landing point got closer, I thought I don’t want this to end. It was a heart-stopping thrill and I would definitely do it again. We are all so proud of the money we have raised for The Rossendale Trust and want to thank everyone who has donated so far as our current total stands at £1,324.” Donations can still be made by visiting the fundraising page here.
Sue Heaven, Head of P.R and Fundraising added “Even after 50 years, we are always amazed at the challenges people take on for our charity. We are so grateful for the support of local fundraisers like Sarah and her team. We could not continue to provide the services we do without their help.”
