Three tenants with learning and physical disabilities were joined by 22 other runners from the Trust’s keen runners, including one Great Britain Triathlon athlete.
Paul has recently graduated from the Trust’s Couch to 5k group and after Sunday’s 5k has really shown that the challenge of completing the race was something he really could achieve.
Lucie is somewhat of veteran, completing this year’s Manchester Great Run 10k with Jodie (Group Leader at the Trust). Lucie loves the sensory aspects of running, the bumps, the wind and very much the support and cheers from the crowd.
Eleanor another graduate from our couch to 5K Rossendale group taking on the challenge of the Fun Run, although a little nervous of the big event, she completed in style. Eleanor said, ‘I did it’.
Lynda Cook from the Macclesfield Harriers & GB Triathlon Athlete joined us on the day, making our team complete with 25 runners. Lynda said, ‘it was a privilege to join our team’. We all felt the privilege was ours.
The team raised almost a £1000 on day and the figure is still rising! Coupled with the Trust being named as one of the three beneficiaries from surplus funds from the day the Trust are over the moon. The funds are destined for Rossendale’s WorkTaste scheme, which supports people with learning disabilities to get a taste of work.
