Wendy Elwood 

When Wendy joined the Rossendale Trust back in 2019, she never imagined she would progress into a role in finance. But with the support of her colleagues, Wendy is now excelling in her managerial role. 

Wendy’s story with the Rossendale Trust began in January 2019, when she joined as a Reception and Fundraising Officer. Her natural organisation and enthusiasm quickly became evident, but it was in 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic reshaped the Trust’s operations, that Wendy’s career took an unexpected turn.

With the reception role on hold due to the pandemic, Wendy was offered an opportunity to assist in the Finance department. She took on tasks such as archiving and reconciliation, and it soon became clear she had a natural aptitude for finance. Recognising her talent, Wendy expressed a desire to pursue an apprenticeship in accounting to build her skills further—a request wholeheartedly supported by the Trust.

“Having my strengths recognised gave me the confidence to pursue a career in finance,” Wendy shares. “The Trust not only encouraged me but also invested in my development.”

Wendy’s dedication and hard work paid off. She completed her AAT Level 3 Accountancy Course and Apprenticeship, and without hesitation, embarked on her Level 4 studies. Over the years, she gained hands-on experience in all aspects of finance, working closely with the previous Head of Finance and the CEO to deepen her understanding of the department.

In June 2024, Wendy’s commitment was rewarded when she stepped into the role of Finance Manager under the close guidance of the CEO. Just a year later, in June 2025, she was promoted to Head of Finance—a role she now embraces with pride and enthusiasm.

“I am very proud to work for the Trust,” Wendy reflects. “The atmosphere, the core values, and above all, the support I’ve received to excel in my role have been extraordinary. The experience and knowledge I’ve gained here will stay with me throughout my career.”
